A war over every soul wages, hidden away from mankind’s prying eyes. The very essence of humanity is at stake, yet no humans are involved, only the arcane undead creatures known as revenants. The battle lies between the powerful and advanced Holous who aim to gain sway over the ethereal and the ancient yet waning Luciens who press for every spirits sovereignty and salvation. Their centuries of feuding have spilled blood over the blurred lines of good and evil, struggling for what they believe sacred. At the heart of this conflict stands Ezra, a revenant straddling each side, in both the past and present, yet knows nothing of it until the war unfolds around his ears.
Hidden deep in a Holous school for developing souls, Ezra resides with other students. Only a select few know his true identity and Ezra is not one of them. In fact they know more of him then he does. The soul within him is an indiscernible puzzle. Many of his fellow students mastered the enigma of their soul and have advanced beyond to the upper echelons of the Holous ranks, leaving him far behind.
After a futile year of coddling and teachings about the nature of the revenant, Ezra’s trusted and patriarchal Elder, casts him from the school. Ezra ran into the wild and stumbled into the vast revenant war. The Luciens quickly discover and shelter him. In their hold he finds that he, in a previous and quite recent life, was their failed leader and they need him to retake the mantle to turn the tide in favor of their holy battle. Stunned and overwhelmed by the new world thrust upon him and without any knowledge of the prior one, Ezra refutes the Lucien claims yet cannot escape or truly deny them as he continually manifests strange and amazing new abilities.
To cultivate his mounting skills, the Luciens spirit him away into their sacred fold to divulge the talents he must learn to protect the ethereal world the Holous are conquering. From his mysterious soul Ezra learns to wield the deadliest weapon against all revenants and harness it to immolate the enemy back into carrion. But as Ezra discovers his strengths, his weakness could allow the Holous devour every soul.
